Excellent value - Simple to setup |
The D-Link DSL-300G+ is an external ADSL modem with an Ethernet connection - Setting up was as simple as plugging it into the PCs Ethernet port, opening a browser and the Web Based Configuration Management allows for quick and easy setup of your ADSL connection parameters. The DSL-300G+ has a PPPoE and PPPoA client built-in to the unit, saving the need to have a computer running at all times with a seperate PPPoE/PPPoA client to keep the ADSL connection. As this is an Ethernet ADSL modem, you can alternatively connect to your LAN through a Cable/DSL router, and share high-speed Internet access on your network! All-in, coupled with its easy installation and compatibility between systems makes this a great value for money product.

Let down by poor support |
This ADSL modem is small and compact and comes with "feet" that enable it to be installed standing up as well as laying flat. This means that it can easily be accomodated on a desk next to your PC. The modem supports a wide range of connection types including PPPoA which the type used with BT Broadband connections. The modem is easy to set up using a web browser. The documentation provided covers the basics and with the information supplied from your broadband provider it should take around 10 minutes to set it all up. The output is Ethernet so you can either connect the modem direct to your PC via a Network Interface Card or to a router which will enable you to share the broadband connection between several PCs. One Ethernet cable is provided with the modem. If you connect the modem direct to your PC it is well worth investing in a software firewall product. If you go via a router then pick one which incorporates a firewall. I would have given the product five stars but the support available is very poor. If you have a straight forward connection then this modem is very easy to set up, but if you do need help from D-link you will need to have patience and perseverance to contact D-link support direct.

Simplicity to Install |
|
When I installed Mac OS 10.3 on my eMac, my old cable modem stopped working and a friend recommended this to me. I plugged it in, changed one setting in Network System Preferences and I was away and online in seconds. Well worth buying!
